21st Annual Authors Luncheon - February 1, 2015

On Monday, February 1, 2015, Assistance League ® of Ventura County hosted the 21st Annual Authors Luncheon at the Residence Inn by Marriott at River Ridge in Oxnard.

Authors slated to speak include Woody Woodburn and Isla Morley.

Woody is a national award-winning newspaper columnist and author. His popular column appears in the Saturday edition of the Ventura Star newspaper. His book, Wooden and Me, details the author's long friendship with legendary basketball coach, John Wooden.He recent completed a second book, Strawberries in Wintertime

Drew Daywalt has been writing escapist fantasy since his childhood in Ohio. After moving to California, he began writing for Disney and Universal Studios. His animated series, the Wacky Work of Tex Avery, earned him an Emmy nomination. His two childrens books, The Day the Crayons Quit and The Day the Crayons Came Home, became best sellers within the first book appearing on the New York Times best seller list for several weeks. Recently Universal Studios purchased the film rights to this book and will soon produce an animated film based on this story.

Isla Morley grew up in South Africa during Apartheid. She is the daughter of a fourth generation South African mother and a British father. While working in South Africa, she became the country's youngest magazine editor. Her books include Come Sunday and Above.

Girls Club/Teen Club Spring Tea

Beginning August 1, 2015
Assistance League of Ventura County's Girls Club/Teen Club is currently accepting enrollment for the 2015/2016 school year. Established in 1954, Girls Club/Teen Club offers a year-round, nurturing safe haven for young girls in 1st through 8th grade. Professionally staffed, the after school and vacation program promotes academic achievement and includes a variety of creative activities designed to increase the girls' self-confidence and personal enrichment. Activities are designed to develop life skills, arts and crafts, sewing, cooking, and homework assistance. The Girls Club is located at 913 E. Santa Clara Street, Ventura. Assistance League of Ventura County is hosting a Holiday Crafts Boutique on Sunday, November 15th from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the chapter house, 913 East Santa Clara Street, Ventura. This event will feature crafts made by the Girls Club, Assisteens® and chapter members. The public is invited to attend this holiday fundraiser.

Assistance League of Ventura County will be hosting the 21st Annual Authors Luncheon on Monday, February 1st, at the Residence Inn by Marriott at River Ridge in Oxnard. Authors slated to speak include Woody Woodburn and Isla Morley. In addition to a wonderful Silent Auction featuring a wide variety of items, this event will offer opportunity drawings for beautiful orchids, a hotel stay at the Marriott, a Nordstrom gift certificate and the return of the very popular $200 Money Hat.
