21st Annual Authors Luncheon – February 1, 2015

On Monday, February 1, 2015, Assistance League of Ventura County hosted the 21st Annual Authors Luncheon at the Residence Inn by Marriott at River Ridge in Oxnard.

Authors slated to speak include Woody Woodburn and Isla Morley.

Woody is a national award-winning newspaper columnist and author. His popular column appears in the Saturday edition of the Ventura Star newspaper. His book, Wooden and Me, details the author’s long friendship with legendary basketball coach, John Wooden.He recent completed a second book, Strawberries in Wintertime

Drew Daywalt has been writing escapist fantasy since his childhood in Ohio. After moving to California, he began writing for Disney and Universal Studios. His animated series, the Wacky Work of Tex Avery, earned him an Emmy nomination. His two childrens books, The Day the Crayons Quit and The Day the Crayons Came Home, became best sellers within the first book appearing on the New York Times best seller list for several weeks. Recently Universal Studios purchased the film rights to this book and will soon produce an animated film based on this story.

Isla Morley grew up in South Africa during Apartheid. She is the daughter of a fourth generation South African mother and a British father. While working in South Africa, she became the country’s youngest magazine editor. Her books include Come Sunday and Above.
