Walmart OSB school Supplies grant

ALVC Receives Walmart Giving Grant

Ventura, California, July 25, 2020

Assistance League of Ventura County is excited to announce that we received a $1000.00 grant from Walmart Giving! At the start of each school year, our Operation School Bell (OSB) program provides clothing, school supplies, toiletries, and books for children in West Ventura County.  With the proceeds of this grant, we decided to give back to Walmart by purchasing a large portion of our school supplies from the Rose Avenue store in Oxnard.  The remaining school supplies will be donated by our members during our annual school supply drive.  This year, we will be providing the above-named items for 1,375 children for the 2020-2021 school year!

Many thanks to Amy Wagor, (pictured far left), Walmart Oxnard Store Manager. Amy recommended our Community Grant Application to Walmart Giving, and our application was accepted! Not only was she instrumental in getting us the grant, she also met or members at the store on her day off just to make sure we received everything we ordered. Fred Batshor, Walmart employee, (pictured far right), had it all packed and ready to go, and then helped us load the many boxes into our vehicles!

We are also grateful for Assistance League member Nila Arensberg, who has dedicated many hours researching and submitting grant applications to help fund our cause, and to Rogina Clarke, ALVC Operation School Bell Chairman, for organizing and coordinating our Operation School Bell event this year.

Although COVID-19 has curtailed most of our operations, Assistance League of Ventura County members are still working behind the scenes, wearing masks and social distancing, to support the needs of our community.  Again, thank you Walmart Giving!
