Membership in Assistance League of Ventura County is fun and rewarding. Members have their choice of philanthropic programs and activities to support. In addition, the chapter sponsors social events, and lifelong friendships are made.
During the 2022-2023 fiscal year, 4,202 children and adults were served by our philanthropic programs. These programs successfully achieve their goals, year after year, because of the ongoing efforts of our members who are committed to making a positive difference in the lives of those we serve. They supply the manpower that is required to keep the programs on track and support the organization financially through grant writing, manning our Bargain Box resale store and putting on fundraisers.
Working together to enrich the lives of those in need in our community also enriches our lives as we hear anecdotes from school personnel, social workers and parents who have witnessed positive results from our programs. A boy who had visited Operation School Bell, and was leaving with a bag full of new clothes, school supplies, toiletries, and a book, was heard to shout at the top of his lungs on his way to the bus, “This is the best day of my life!”
Active/Voting: Requirements are to attend regular monthly meetings (the third Thursday of the month – dark in July and December), participate in and support the philanthropic programs and fundraising, serve two shifts a month, and serve on a chapter committee. One shift must be at the Bargain Box. If an Active member chooses to not serve on a philanthropic committee, he/she may serve two shifts a month at the Bargain Box. Only Active/Voting members may serve on the Board. Annual dues are $60.
