…continue to grow and thrive because we deliver the right approaches to local challenges.
We conduct community assessments and develop programs designed to meet uncovered needs.
(Est.1993): Our signature program has provided clothing, shoes, toiletries and school supplies to local underprivileged students in grades K through 5, many of whom have never had anything new. More than 29,219 students, who are always very appreciative of everything they receive, have benefited from this program since its inception. Referrals are accepted from the school districts we serve. No private or individual referrals are accepted.
(Est. 2021): In collaboration with Ventura County Children and Family Services, ALVC Care Closet serves foster families, “fragile” families, and youth who have aged out of the foster care system by providing gently-used clothing and shoes to infants through teens. ALVC members sort and deliver clothing to Ventura County Human Services Agency’s emergency resource closet for County social workers to access. Last year, 3,770 items were provided to 154 families. In addition, those served by this program are welcome to select items of clothing and household needs at the ALVC Bargain Box. Referrals are accepted from Ventura County Children and Family Services. No private or individual referrals are accepted.
(Est. 2021): A philanthropic program providing scholarships to young adults of West Ventura County pursuing higher education after high school:
The ALVC Re-Entry Scholarship was recently created, in tandem with Ventura College Foundation’s Phoenix Program, for those looking to reboot their education following a hiatus.
(Est.1989): Bears Understand, Friends, Feelings and You. These cuddly bears are given to children experiencing traumatic events to offer them comfort and reassurance in a time of crisis. The bears are distributed by Assistance League members to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office for their Crime Victims Assistance Program and Child Abduction and Recovery Unit as well as to Casa Pacifica, and local hospitals, police and fire departments.
